Me and a group of friends decided that we would like to explore the global skiing scene. Since we all have explored basically all that the Scandinavian mountains have to offer and likewise with the Alps, the choice was between the US or Japan. To us the question was a no brainer, without a doubt USA would be the destination. The descision was made simply due to the fact that if we start with the bar as high as Japan is said to be the urge to visit the US would slowly fade. So we did some research and settled for Minnesota, maybe there was some bias involved since one of my prior English teachers has talked only good about her homestate. The vacation will last for roughly 30 days where we mostly will spend our time in the slopes and relaxing in the cabin, really just getting the full experience of the US winter and not to forget the pleasure of the mandatory sauna.
The main purpose of the trip was to go skiing of course but my friend introduced me to the concept of geocaching, which is a type of orientation where you search for things using a gps or an app on your phone. The checkpoints are more well hidden than your regular orientation checkpoints, which makes the task more challenging and interesting and the fact you don’t have the time limit on your back is a big plus. So we will take a couple of days off to explore, hike and geocach in the wilderness.
In conclusion the trip was plenty of fun, the skiing was mediocre compared to the alps but the setting was breathtaking. We had a beautiful view of the mountains and we were just below the slopes. The hikes exploration and hiking was very eyeopening, you got to experience a tiny margin of the magnificent landscape that the US has to offer. But the highlight of the trip for me was the geocaching, it is a very fun way to excercise while still having to take many things into consideration and at the same time learn some survival techniques for example the gps.
